Dear Readers,
It is now the 3rd Thursday of the month and Project Cargo Weekly is here again with the May, 2026 issue.
It is my hope that you have enjoyed the last month since our last publication. The world is still in many ways in limbo. There is a kind of unease in the air. Many projects are delayed it seems, and the whole world is waiting and watching and likely hoping for the day when we don’t need to hear anything about “Conflict in the Middle East”.
I’ve got a hunch that many are awfully tired about it, especially when one considers the cost, not only in lives lost but also in the waste of money in order to achieve destruction when so much good could have been done using those same funds. Still human beings, some governments and leaders are hell bent on destruction. Some are infatuated with power, some with greed, some with fanaticism, and some encompassing all of the above!
A wise guy told me once that he never reads the news … period. News generally sells much better when it is “bad news” so to speak. Staying off the air and focusing on the small (shall we say 2 km / 1.3 miles) circle around you is what you have an ability to influence on a daily basis, so you can choose in which bubble you wish to live.
This guy told me that he worries much less nowadays and focuses on what he can see with his own eyes. He has now retired to the coast of the Pacific here in Chile and lives a relaxing life.
Somehow I like that idea and am indeed finding it intriguing to say the least, although in my case, I would be compelled to bring a lot of books and still keep the internet … not least for video calling with children and grandchildren, etc. I would also continue my yearly trips on freighters.
And speaking of trips, I am slated for a trip between Asia and Europe or (vice versa) in October for at least 5 weeks. That will be another highlight for me. I promised myself to take a freighter trip each year as a passenger as long as my legs will support me up the gangway!
All this talk of trips reminds me about this link. It is a photo book and includes clickable videos of the last trip I had in 2025 from Klang, Malaysia to Ronne, Denmark. Enjoy it here.
My usual report on the state of the EU also hasn’t changed much. I recently read the summary of the Mario Draghi report. It is indeed horrifying reading given the fact that the EU did ask for this report and that was two years ago. Many a conference room has been booked in the meantime, but what has been achieved, let alone implemented? That is, to me, a mystery: we seem unable to move forward, never mind taking bold decisions, but yet we comment on everyone else that does. Besides trading, we are regrettably more and more insignificant to the world outside, although we do have the best living conditions and museums. However, it won’t pay the bills and there is a limit to how much collective borrowing you can do on behalf of the hapless taxpayers behalf, isn’t there?
Shippingwise there is not as much news as far as I can see. The Strait of Hormuz is closed. The entrance to and from the Red Sea is precarious, and the always reliable terrorists of Somalia can be trusted upon to hi-jack for money so nothing new has changed since our latest publication. We luckily have the way around the Cape. I suspect this route is being more and more accepted into companies’ supply chains with the understanding that transit times are longer and that we simply need to find other ways to “round the conflicts.” New trucking solutions across Saudi Arabia and other GCC states are being implemented, so for the innovative logistics provider or shipowner willing to spend rather than fill up yet another Swiss bank account, perhaps now is the time to really invest.

An incredible feat of transporting a 500 ton+ column from China to inland in Poland. Do take a moment to watch this and listen to the interview.

Interview
OBT – Sierra Leone
Interview with
Ms. Isabel Maguire
General Manager

Isabel, could you tell us about the history of OBT. I understand that the company originally was started in Denmark? When did you start your company in Sierra Leone?
OBT was founded in 2004, with its very first offices established in Sierra Leone and Liberia. From the beginning, the company was built to operate in West Africa, drawing on the experience of Danish shipping professionals with deep regional knowledge.
Sierra Leone therefore holds a special place in OBT’s history as one of the company’s founding locations. Over the years, OBT has grown significantly, expanding across West, Central, and now parts of East Africa, while maintaining the same core principles of strong local presence, compliance, and hands-on operational expertise.

First of all Eric, tell our readers about the history, background and ownership of ZTI Logistics?
ZENITH (Tianjin) International (ZTI) Logistics Co., Ltd. was established at the beginning of 2026. The company is the result of my long-term commitment to the logistics industry in Tianjin. I first joined Asia Imperial Cargo Logistics in 2005 and established their Tianjin branch in 2008. After accumulating extensive experience and a solid team, I founded ZTI Logistics to build a more specialized and comprehensive platform. India Growth News
Editor’s Note:
India is booming and many wish to move production out of China and to democratic India for a variety of reasons… Perhaps it is worthwhile to read more about this huge, populous country with the largest young generation – as far as I know.

A weekly update on the 4th largest economy.
Arctic Today
Editor’s Note:
Havoc is created in one place and moves unobserved somewhere else – that is what below is basically about… Everyone’s now looking at the Middle East but indeed Russia is still developing their “policy” in the Arctic… Perhaps interesting to read this latest from Arctic today.
In the latest story, a senior executive at Iceland’s national power company talks about a plan to build one of Europe’s largest hydropower stations in Greenland.
There’s also a story about Canada’s long-standing ambition to construct a new oil and gas pipeline in the North American Arctic. It’s a compelling idea, but there would be numerous challenges — both known and unknown.
BreakbulkONE – April Edition
Editor’s Note:
With Breakbulk Rotterdam on next month it is time to read the Breakbulk April Edition.

A small port in central Sweden/Baltic Coast LJUSNE recently had a heavylift visit from United Heavy Lift discharging towers for a windturbine project in Sweden. An impressive picture here taken from outside the port gate. Vessel mv UHL FINESS is only one of 20+ vessels of this reputable shipowner.
