Flowlink-Interviewee-Photo

First of all Roy, please tell our readers about the history and background of Shanghai Flowlink.

Shanghai Flowlink Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd. was formally established in 2016, through the strategic merger and integration of several logistics companies that specialized in special container, heavy-lift and project cargo transportation. Our headquarters is based in Shanghai, with a team of over 200 logistics professionals. We hold NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) qualifications and are members of international logistics networks including WCA and CIFA. From the beginning, our core focus has been on building a reliable, asset-backed logistics platform for project and heavy cargo, and we have grown to become a leading provider in this niche.

What can you tell us about the history and origins of Shin-Jo Logitech?  Does the company name have a special meaning?

Shinjo Logitech was established in Busan in 1998 and is a project-specialized logistics company that has been steadily growing to this day. The meaning of the company name is as follows: “Shinjo” signifies trustworthy and helpful, while “Logitech” is a compound word of “logistics” and “technology,” signifying that the company is a specialized logistics firm based on professional technology rather than general logistics.

Interview with

Mr. Kasra Ferasat
Managing Director

Shipit-Interviewee-Photo

Some shipping lines nowadays have their own freight forwarding division. What is your view on this? Do you find them serious competitors? Also, the customer service of many lines have come under scrutiny. What is your experience?

For most of the niche markets we operate in, I am not concerned. There are so many minute details in such services and shipments that ocean carriers do not have the capacity or willingness to handle, except for standard vehicle shipments. We know ocean carriers have contracts with major OEMs and containerize them using their 3PL divisions, but they don’t get involved in the used vehicle markets.

Regarding customer service, that is an area of the lines that has gotten worse over time as they have focused on automation and also taking business from their NVO/FF customers. There are some carriers in the US that still offer personalized communication without a group email that has a different person responding to each email, and that is a result of giving such carriers more volume as well.

Interview
TERA Projects & Shipping – Malaysia

PCW-Featured-Image-TERA-Projects-829px

Interview with

Mr. Dennis Tan
Group Managing Director

TERA-Projects-Interviewee-Photo

Dennis, first off, how did you get into logistics in the first place?  What made you choose this kind of career?

Logistics has been my bloodline ever since I was born. Our family has been in the logistics businesses since my Great Grandfather’s time when they were in the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods -.ed) distribution business. My grandfather was in the heavy transportation and heavy lift businesses and was operating as a port contractor in the 50s.

As the company evolved over time, I always dreamt to be one of the specialised logistics pioneers in the area of an integrated projects logistics service provider in our region. Therefore, I studied engineering and international business and graduated from Monash University.

UAL has a long-standing history in Africa-focused shipping, with roots going back to the 1970s. Over the decades, the group has built a strong position in breakbulk, project cargo and containerised shipments, particularly for industries that require flexible and dependable transport solutions into challenging markets. Today, UAL is recognised for its practical, hands-on approach, its strong relationships across the African market, and its ability to combine liner services with tailor-made project solutions.

Brazil-Peru railway promises faster trade to China, but at what cost?

Editor’s Note:
This newsletter called Dialogue Earth that I signed up for has a lot of interesting articles including one here about the planned PERU/Brazil railway link through the Amazonas Jungle. Chinese COSCO built a port called Chancay and continue their owners (Chinese Government) policy of “controlling” the world through trade… smart if it materialises… It certainly will involve shipping in a big way in Latin America too.

For hundreds of years, global traders have faced a problem: how to transport goods as quickly as possible from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific. The Panama Canal, which cuts through the narrow Central American isthmus, was a solution to that problem.

However, as the canal has become more congested and costly, a situation only due to worsen because of climate change, the hunt for other trade routes linking the west of the Americas with the east has intensified.

CLC Projects Network Newsletter

Editor’s Note:
There are a ton of freight forwarding networks out there. I have interviewed many of them in the past but I provide you herewith a sample of 2 networks. The 1st one is CLC Projects Network established 2012 by professionals in the industry. They are also NOT owners themselves of any other freight forwarding companies on the side. Their newsletter here is “shipping news” from around the world in itself.

Cross Ocean Air & Sea Project Logistics Network Newsletter

Editor’s Note:
The second is Cross Ocean Air & Sea Project Logistics Network, established in 2016 as an independent arm of the CLC Projects Group. Together, Cross Ocean and CLC Projects comprise some 340 members in 150 countries worldwide — making them a strong choice if you need to go global quickly.

Gold Star Line Sailing Schedule – Week #22

Editor’s Note:
A lesser-known transpacific RoRo carrier is now available from Gold Star. Since Gold Star Line is part of ZIM, the editor reckons this RoRo service may soon be flying the colours of Hapag-Lloyd, following their recent takeover of ZIM Lines. Time will tell. Until then, take a look at the interesting load and discharge ports — high and heavy welcome too!

Passing the Equator bound for Walvis Bay

Editor’s Note:
About two years ago, I crossed the Equator southbound, bound for Walvis Bay, Namibia. On a day like this one—as most days were on that wonderful trip—you really savor being out on the ocean. It’s completely detoxing, an experience every burned-out executive should have. The vessel was mv Bright Sky of www.macship.com they accept passengers!
